Just a Quickietron

So we all love Tron, amazing movie ahead of its time. And as the music, visual, art and fashion cycle is leaving the nu-80's and going to the nu-90's, I want to show you this quickie. We talk a lot about music, and we need more visual stimulation once in a while, so here's a sweaded version from the Gondry's school of sweading. The cycle scene in Tron in the good old stop motion style, and maybe you've seen this somewhere else but I definitely think is worth repeating. Enjoy people!

And as always a double treat, something that fits the post. The new Ladytron single of the upcoming album "Velocifero", I'm not going to talk about it, so you can be the judge, and c'mon people we all know them, but it's up to you to say if you like it if you heard it before or if you hate it.(zshare file)

Adeyhawke's Driving All Night

Influenced by the Valerie Collective, Ciaran aka Adeyhawke decided to start producing music, actually he came across the blog by accident and went linking, he told us that everything associated to it like the 80s influences, images, the sounds captivated him. He comes from a ambient background and he had released an album on a small Dublin label under a different name, so doing electro is new for Adeyhawke but by his sounds and this really deep touch we can tell that he has been around.

As far as influences go, he likes all the biggies like Moroder, Cowley, John Carpernter etc. He's also into Colonel Abrahams, Midnight Star, Herbie Hancock and most other people in that general vein. Boards of Canada is a big influence also and that explains the aged feel of Adeyhawke's tracks.

Now, what you are all waiting, here's a really great remix for AnoraaK's "Nightdrive with You" by Adeyhawke and believe me you'll get the deep feeling that i was talking about.

AnoraaK - Nightdrive with You (Adeyhawke Remix) - Zshare file

I have two more gifts for you, the original version by AnoraaK and "Skyscraped" a great track produced by Adeyhawke. Be the judge on these ones and check out AnoraaK's myspace because his EP comes out late April and is going to be tight.

This time is my pleasure to introduce to you 7he Myriads a band from Russia formed by Vitalic Teterin and Alexey Krjuk, they are still going independent but they are being supported by Valerie which is always guarantee for quality. This guys are in love with the French Touch and as they told me, they believe there's not one but two gods : Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel. In the actual scene they are big fans of Breakbot, Cut Copy, Midnight Juggernauts, Sebastien Tellier, Kavinsky and Boys Noize among others. They have been producing music as long as they remember and they define their favorite activity as: "Twisting knobs and listening to what it results in".

Since I was gone for two weeks I'm gonna make that up for you with three gifts. The First two tracks were produced by 7the Myriads, "Sunrise" and "Honey", great smooth but powerful tracks that you should listen to. High Recommendation

Neon Tallynt

A couple of weeks ago I left you with a song from a new Neon Talent, so now is the time to talk about this girl called Tally Isham.

Tally Isham is the virtual popstar of your dreams. She grew up and studied astrophysics in Scotland, moving to Texas to work at NASA Johnson Space Center in the early 80's. She enjoyed deep sea diving and motorcycle racing before a fatal explosion at the center in 1983. Her image was reborn in the sea of information and she continues to accumulate and augment digital information for your satisfaction.

Her greatest influences include visionaries such as Tangerine Dream, Fantastic Plastic Machine, Vangelis, Queen, Gruppo Bertone, Syd Mead, Hajime Sorayama, Katsuhiro Otomo and Masamune Shirow. Her favorite films are still Brainstorm, Flight of the Navigator, Scanners, THX 1138, Mad Max, Holy Mountain, Vanishing Point, The Warriors, and Westworld.

Tally's music fits what we've been listening lately. It's a very calm and soothing sound but it has that ingredient that makes you play the track again and again, and let's face it people, same sound banging electro is very last year. Arpeggios, 8 bit sounds, old school synth sounds, it could be the soundtrack for a story about a Hero saving the world set in the 80's, or in a videogame for the NES.

So here's an exclusive track from her for all you Neon Rider people, it's called Makeout Sesh and this track will show you the range of Tally's music. And as a double treat i'll leave you a bonus track. Check her myspace and stay tuned because we're going to have some remixes from people that you know remixing Tally's tracks.

We are having some issues with our server so here's the zshare link.

Sidechains

We love bringing you more of The Neon Talent and this is definitely one of them. We haven't seen any good artists from Spain in a while, but that's about to change.

This Neon's talent name is Alex Ferrer, from Barcelona and the Sidechains project started last year, in August to be exact. He started playing with cubase at a young age, recording the tracks of an industrial-metal band he had with some friends. Their sound resembled Ministry, NIN, Alien Sex Fiend etc.. Then he started listening to Prodigy, Daft Punk (Homework) etc.. He immediately fell in love with electronic music. After this, he bought some equipment to start practicing electronic music. He started making jingles for Spainsh commercials. And because of that, he was left with little time to work on the music he liked, so the Sidechains project started.
The first track he made as Sidechains was, Turn Your Body On, it was well received, then he decided to take it more seriously and started producing new tracks. One of the tracks is going to be released on Pistol (EMI Sublalbel). The release of more tracks are still in negotiation on another label.

His tracks have different styles and influences. You can feel that 90's techno influences, and suddenly you have funky disco sounds, vocoders on others, mixing it with that electro sound that you love. Very good sounds overall, this is somebody you have to watch closely, and expect more from him in the future here at The Neon Rider.

We leave you with 4 tracks directly from him. Hope you like them on the dance floor or banging from your headphones.

Sidechains - Dr. Funk

Sidechains - Dance while you can

Sidechains - Turn your body on

Sidechains - Real

Stay tuned for an exclusive Neon Talent and an Interview with Cut Copy!

Robots from South Africa

There are many good young directors out there right now, he's not new though but he is one of my favorites. You might have seen his work without knowing it was him.

Neill Blomkamp is a South African born, Vancouver, BC-based director of short films and advertisements. Blomkamp employs a documentary-style, hand-held, blending seamlessly with naturalistic and photo-realistic computer-generated imagery effects(it's his trademark).

If you're a Halo fan, you probably saw a series of three short films set in the Halo universe (known collectively as Landfall).Blomkamp was hired to direct the movie adaptation of the series before financial problems forced the project to be postponed, but apparently they're back in production now. His latest work Crossing the Line, is a 2007 short by Peter Jackson and the first film made with the Red One Camera. Right now he's working on a film also produced by Peter Jackson called District 9.

Blomkamp's style is very much his own. It revolves around social and very human behaviors. His fascination with robots, and with them in our society is very distinct. His commercial work touches the same points in different levels, specially on his Yellow comercial for Adidas. His work is not recent at all but you have to check it out if you don't know who this guy is. I know that here, at The Neon Rider, we try to give you the latest and newest stuff, but this guy will be the latest stuff in the future. So you better know him now.

This is my favorite Blomkamp's short film, called Alive in Joburg. You be the judge.

Check his work for Nike, Citroen, and his other short films.

As a double treat I'll tease you with this track, it's by Tally Isham, I'll talk about this Neon Talent soon.

Tally Isham - Virtual Girl

Loose Shus

I'm back with more of what we enjoy more in theneonrider, neon talent, new upcoming artists with fresh sounds for a change. This time it's turn for Loose Shus a San Francisco based "bedroom producer" as he calls himself, and his plans are to get out in the market ASAP. He is lately hearing a lot of the Valerie Collective, Glass Candy and also a lot of incidental music on out of print VHS. Other big influences are Goblin, Giorgio Moroder, Ennio Morricone, Daft Punk, etc.

Dave started producing music like 6 year ago and he started by cutting and pasting things in Cool Edit Pro, he was just starting and the tracks would be like 1000's of tiny little single drum hits and slice placed just manually along the timeline. And I'll quote Dave on this one, I found it interesting "The timing was all fucked up and the tracks sounded like shit, but they had way more heart than anything I've done since".

Let me tell you people that these two tracks that I'm going to leave you are far from being out of time, just single drums or whatever Loose Shus was making on the beginning, these two tracks are well excecuted and they totally go with theneonrider profile. First "Taurus" my personal favorite and then "Threesome", I'll let you be the judge but on these two, and if you dig them, don´t hesitate to hit 3rd Ward in Brooklyn on march 28th, Loose Shus will be there performing with Romanoff and Neon Coyote.

Loose Shus - Taurus

Loose Shus - Threesome

Enjoy!

Kelley Polar Neon Pop

"I need you to hold on while the sky is falling" is the new record from Kelley Pollar. We believe it is just brilliant and this time we know that it will have more impact than Love songs of the hanging gardens. There is a little bit of everything in this album, it is disco combined with 80's new wave sounds, and the perfect touch of electro pop sounds. So if you need fresh air and something different and , we are pretty sure you're going to like this. Kelley recorded most of the music for the album, synth playing, singing, and strings

It sounds like the Zoot Woman hanging out with the Junior Boys and listening to DFA!

Just listen!

Concrete Amsterdam + Avalon

Product, interior design, architecture, fashion and visual marketing are just a few things the Concrete guys are into. I would say innovation is the perfect word to describe what they really do. From projects like the Supperclub in Amsterdam , Toys, Restaurants, the nicest Pharmacy you could ever see in Amsterdam to the Uberfluss hotel in Bremen this crew is redefining what interior design is all about.
You can find more of their work in the book "The World According to Concrete" that features more than 300 color images and essays from design critic Timo de Rijk

See more here:
Concrete Amsterdam

Because we know you are just looking for the songs we are back with music from Japanese electro band Avalon. It is like hearing metal songs in Midi format and of course we hope you like it!

Avalon-Exodus Testament

Back to your 80's TV

Ok first of all I want to make something clear, as Wayfarer said, we don't like posting the latest remix of the remix of the remix, and because I'm talking about Justice, applies to them too. All the hype behind this guys is kind of gross but, when I saw this video, I thought that definitely needed a post about it.

The video is directed again by SOME and, the motion graphics are made by Machine Mollie. Their work is kind of generic, and it doesn't really follow trends as other studios.

The video is great, it's like a big homage to all the cool 80's motion graphics from studios to TV networks. You can see the CBS Fox HBO SEGA ESPN, and a bunch of them that I don't remember that well. It's really well made and the ending is the best part, it's just really cool and frames the whole video up. If you saw Family Ties you might remember what is it all about. Hope you like it, and takes you back to your childhood. Enjoy!
