A break from the usual

Ok seriously, can someone tell us what is going on in Australia? Or can at least someone invite us to crash there? 9 out of 10 songs we've been listening in the past months are made in Australia! And this time rockers Mercy Arms will not dissapoint you. We are pretty sure these guys are going to be big, so start spreading the buzz! It is like hearing Morrissey again combined with the power of the Silent Alarm (Bloc Party) album and the dark sounds from The Cure. Well maybe that's just an opinion, but we really liked their songs and we hope you enjoy hearing them, just as we did. Besides, hearing some rock is always good to escape from those electro sounds that are always following us.

Mercy Arms-Kept Low High Recommended
Other bands we like and you need to listen:
The Fashion These guys will be opening for Cut Copy in NY and are part of SXSW.
Cut off Your Hands No introduction for this guys let's just wait for their new album.

Italo From the Future

Wicked Picture, right? today I'm introducing to you another neon talent suggestion and I'm sure that just by the image you are wondering who are these robotic characters. Well they are DW from Stockholm, Sweden hitting us with some exciting tracks but what really amazed us is the art that they are making, it goes just right with the sound. Fresh, smooth beats combined with some Italo make a perfect mixture to take an exciting ride with these two fellas.

The song that I'm leaving you today is Hijack, my personal favorite, Killian and Amir (their real names) don´t have a label yet and they are still going independent but I'll bet that through the year we will see more of them because they just can't stay out of sight. Be sure to check out these guys myspace.

DW - Hijack

As a double treat I'm presenting you DaroC from Paris, this guy goes with a deeper and darker sound but it's really amazing, it just gets through you. In his influences we can find artists like Portishead, Depeche Mode, Ennio Morricone, Serge Gainsbourg, DJ Shadow, Air, etc. He is also going independent but that's what the neon is all about, support upcoming and talented artists with fresh sounds to open more and more minds into new acts.

I'm gonna leave you two tracks, the first one is called Birth which is just fresh out of the oven and the second one is called Serie B, I hope that you find both of them as captivating as I did. Maybe we'll check out an EP from DaroC during the year, let's hope it happens!

DaroC -Birth

Enjoy!

Underground Oklahoma+ Neon Pop

The Underground consists of a system of tunnels and bridges that connect a number of buildings in downtown Oklahoma. The first tunnel was constructed in 1931 with the majority of the Concourse being built betwen 1972 and 1984. Rand Elliott and architect Michael Hoffner (Elliot + Associates) recently developed and completed a new version of the underground in that city. This new space also displays art and information from artists and the city. The light gallery is just one of many galleries that make the city more interesting, changes our perception of Oklahoma, and make the citizens have a more colorful underground journey. Looks like the perfect set for a Zoot Woman video right?

Because here at the Neon Rider we don't have the intention to post the "remixed remix of the latest remix" This time we want to present you more artists with the same fresh sounds but more relaxed. This time it's turn for Glasscandy, Professor Genius and Mirage. Three bands that combine pop sounds, lots of arpeggios, vocoders and Italo!

Adi Dassler

Adolf "Adi" Dassler, borned on November 3rd 1900 in Herzogenaurach, Germany and passed away on September 6th 1978 in the same town, was the founder of one of the most important and successful sportswear companies that we know, Adidas.

Three stripes, a consolidated icon for many generations including us, who hasn't had a pair of "Superstars" the item that masters of Rap music Run DMC made so popular in the 80s. I talk for myself when I say that Adidas in the fashion market is the best one and I think that a lot of people reading this post will agree with me, creating Y-3 with Yohji Yamamoto, doing the girls fashion line with Missy Elliot, the skate line that has been there for a long time and supported by Mark Gonzalez, bringin models from the past and reinventing them, I think i can just list a ton of examples that make Adidas a great brand but it just talks for itself.

After some history and my opinion, I´ll cut to the chase and finally present to you what got me talking about Adi in the first place. Is this great campaign from the guys of 180 Amsterdam Digital Studio, which as a 10 year celebration with their founding client Adidas, decided to make a tribute to the man that created all. 180 Amsterdam has also an office in LA and among their clients you can find Amstel, Omega, MTV, Motorola, Sony, BMW, etc. Check out this great animation directed by Stink’s Martin Krejci.

Enjoy!

Just a band??

We are back again with highly recommended artists. This time is not Australia, but from France we present you Just a Band and believe us, it is not just a band! These guys have the sound you were waiting for and you will be the judge this time!! We know that when we are getting tired of listening repetitive things, there is always something that end up impressing us.
They just released a great EP and we encourage you to buy it. It has that Frenchie sound combined with the Berlin distortioned sound we love. And if you're tired of hearing the "drugs in my body" song by Thieves like us you better go to the Just a Band myspace and listen to their remix it is NASTY!!!
Also we want to leave you a song that I've been looking forward to upload for a long time. It is a remix made London's Kid Dub by Tocadisco. It looks that Boys Noize copied something from it or sounds almost exactly as him.

Highly recommended.
Just a Band- Aarghh
Kid Dub- Tetris (Tocadisco edit)

Note: When we say highly recommended we mean it!

Love From the Future

Continuing with the Neon Talent this time I'll just like to present this great post by our new and honorary members, Sydney's own, Future Love.

I’m Salmon, one third of Melbourne electro trio Future Love. Me, Nic and Scott come from an hour south east of Melbourne on the Mornington Peninsula. We all grew up together and graduated high school last year. We’ve basically been playing shows and writing songs for a year now and we’re hoping to release our debut pressed release in March/April.

The live electro/indie scene is massive in Melbourne at the moment, and pretty big throughout Australia, with bands like Cut/Copy, Midnight Juggernauts and Presets having massive national and international promotion it’s really given the Australian electro scene lots of life. At the moment there is a lot of cross-genre electro bands coming out of Melbourne like Pets With Pets, Terrordactyl, Emergency Emergency etc. combining post punk and really raw sounds with synths and electronic drums. There’s also a fair bit of 80’s inspired bands and producing coming out of Melbourne and Sydney like Grafton Primary, Miami horror and the Galvatrons. Theres also the whole 80’s ‘acid-house’ style of electro music that’s very new order inspired with a lot more guitar and less electro/house style drums etc – Melbourne bands like Dance with Voices and Dardanelle come to mind there. One thing that has been going off down here lately is remixing electro music by bands and anyone with a computer really – one thing that sparked it was Van She (Sydney Band) doing some amazing remix’s of Klaxons etc. It’s a pretty healthy scene with lots going on and it’s always changing and new bands are coming out of no where all the time. It’s exciting.

As for us we draw lots of influence the ‘acid-house’ style from the 80’s, such as New Order etc. But then we also listen to a great deal of more tradition indie/folk/country/rock music like Bright Eyes and I fucking love Jeff Buckley so I spose its hard to say that sort of shit doesn’t influence us.

At the moment I’ve been listening to lots of Whitey, Jeff Buckley, New Order, Dance With Voices, The Periscopes, Angus and Julia Stone, Daft Punk, Mr Oizo.

We thank Salmon for all the support and for taking the time to make this post. And as usual I can't leave you without some gifts and here they are, three tracks that the Future Love sent us and believe me it's not the last time that you'll be hearing from them.

Enjoy

Digikid84

One more for The Neon Talent.

I'd like to introuduce to you Digikid84 . Two 23 yr. old producers from France, (Huntington William a.k.a Billy Bones and Adrian Bloom a.k.a Kid84), coming from the Hip-Hop movement.

"Being for a long time fans of the 80s and of all who cling to it, Billy and Kid draw their inspirations
as well from classical authors of this period (A-HA, Boy Georges, Michael Jackson, TOTO, Eurhythmics)
as in generics of cartoons expensive to a whole generation (Cosmocats, SilverHawks, GalaxyRangers, Jayce and the conquerors of the light and many others).

The nostalgia for these two apprentices is thus of use to us a florilege of all the musics which rocked their ears, the whole sprinkled with heavy and energetic drum kits to spice the whole!"

Valerie Collective meets Boys Noize. They have that 8 bit feeling, but add so much more. Their sound is not that distorted as others, and you can tell their hip hop background somewhere in the middle of everything.

One of the new french upcomers that doesn't sound like everybody else. They've done remixes for LC, Ocelot, NT89 and more.

Keep your eyes on this guys because you're going to here more from them. Specially here at The Neon Rider, we'll have more stuff from them soon.

I'll leave you a double treat as always. Two different songs, so you can appreciate the range of this guys.

Digikid84 - Super Star Dimention

Untrue?

To cool down the hype that has been going on at theneonrider, I decided to talk about London's dubstep master Burial. Although he has remain anonymous since his debut in 2006, I can tell you that the sound that this guy gives us is breath taking. His first album called "Burial" released in early 2006 made a lot of noise among the european scene, it was an album to just relax, read a book or simply enjoy the blend of different sounds and effects that were put into it. The follow up, "Untrue", was announced in September 2007 and finally we had it out in November, this album didn't suffer the curse of the second release, because we always become judgemental when it comes to comparing, this album has the essence of the first one, but if you add great vocals into the songs, a little bit more power and deeper sounds, the result is just delightful. Both of his albums had been recognized as albums of the year by Hyperdub which is Burial's record label, also magazines such as The Wire and Mixmag had talked greatly about the work that this anonymous artist has done.

What got me talking about Burial in the first place, is this remix by Boy 8-Bit of Archangel my favorite song taken out of Untrue, its similar to the original but it adds power to it so I think it´s worth to be heard.

Burial - Archangel (Boy 8-Bit Remix)

As a gift I´m going to leave you the original version of another of my favorite songs of Burial's second album and a remix that he did for Bloc Party's Where is Home?

Burial - Etched Headplate

Bloc Party - Where is Home? (Burial Remix)

Saint Pauli

If you don't know these guys, you better start reading because they've been producing insane music, playing live sets and putting the best quality remixes we've heard lately. SAINT PAULI are two guys that started their whole thing in 1998. They began playing live in 2003 (i.e. no laptops on stage, just a mpc, analogue filters, guitar, bass, shakers, cowbell and a crappy SH 101 synth.

Now they are part of the NO SHIT BUT GEIL crew in Hamburg. With artists like the Coconut wireless and DJ Adler Team they been throwing parties with recent guests including Shir Khan, Phillipe de Boyar and las week they presented Surkins new material. They also have a radio show on a French radio station called Radio Jeunes Reims. They've worked with Cassius, Tiptronik, Malente, The Infadels, The floor is made of Lava and recently they played in Eurosonic with the Bloody Beetroots, Ladyhawke and the list can go on.

Max from Saint Pauli sent us some material we would like to share. We selected two songs for the perfect party mixtape. We are tired of MSTRKRFT! artists should be working with Saint Pauli!
